DESCRIPCIÓN DEL PRODUCTO There is a school of thought that holds Gil Scott-Heron to be one of the earliest rappers, and when he was once described as The Godfather of Rap , he remarked I hope there s a Godmother, because I want to talk to her about these kids. Born in Chicago on 1st April 1949, Gil first came to prominence as a novelist and poet, publishing The Vulture and The Nigger Factory before he moved into music. An introduction to jazz musician Brian Jackson saw the pair collaborate on a half spoken half sung rap and jazz hybrid. Small Talk At 125th Street And Lennox gained him a cult audience that grew with each successive release, and a later switch to Arista and more commercially aimed music saw him feature on the R&B charts with Johannesburg and The Bottle. Whilst he has yet to feature on the UK charts, his importance has been no less diminished and his live appearances in Europe are invariably as eagerly anticipated as his appearances in his homeland. This live album features many of his best known songs, all peformed in the unique Gil Scott-Heron manner.
